I have been praying for "self control" in several areas of my life. Mainly, my prayers consisted of the "self control" that I desired to obtain at work. I began to read and ponder Genesis 2. The entire chapter is profound because it is my belief through God's unchanging word that he speaks to us in 2 ways. His mighty unchanging word being the one that I want to share with you.
Verse 8 : The Lord God (which means the originator) had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.
The latter part of verse 9 reads: In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of good and evil.
Verse 15 - 17 : The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.
These words, which is God, spoke to me (John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God)
God has eqipped us with everything that we need on this earth for life and godliness. God also gives us a choice. (Deut. 30:19 This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live)
We can choose to live a self controled life that honors God in every way or we can choose to live a life of sin and destruction that will eventually lead to death and a life of eternal damnation!
Everything is in God's control, but we have to choose to live for God. We have to choose to live a life that honors and represents God. We have to choose the way of righteous living. God is not going to force himself in our lives. God wants us to welcome him in our lives with open arms.
Jeremiah 29:13 says:
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. 14 I will be found by you," declares the LORD, "and will bring you back from captivity.
God desires us to come to him with a heart that is open to receiving the goodness, grace and mercy that he has stored up for all of us. We don't have to worry about coming to God "all cleaned up" We were born into sin, so we already have a blemish on our records.
God placed Adam in the garden with everything that he could ever want or imagine. He also placed 2 trees in the middle of the garden. He told Adam not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, and we all know how the strory goes from there.
This verse makes me think about my own life.
God has placed us in a world that is far from Eden, and he has given us some choices to make. It is almost like God is saying, if you want to truly serve me and get all of the wonderful things that I have stored up for you (good health, being under God's mighty protection, being in his grace, prosperity, and so much more,) then I want you to resist eating from the tree of good and knowledge. It is like God is saying to me and so many others , "I want you to choose me over Satan" It is like God is saying, how can the choice of "self control" be so difficult "Look at everything I do for you, I gave my only son for you". It is like God is saying, why are you praying for "self control" , this is a choice, that I need you to make!
I belive that God is telling me that "Satan desires to destroy you, but I want you to live free from worry and anxiety, depression, despair, confusion and a lifestyle that will lead to damnation. It is like God is saying " live for me and I will make sure that you are taken care of"
I truly belive in God's word and I truly belive that when sometimes we don't know what the pray for, then the Holy Spirit intercedes for us. After intercession, if we sit quielty and listen for God's voice, then he will speak to us. He will bring an answer to you in your spirit.
I know that God brought this to me in my spirit. My answer is "that I don't need to pray for self control, I need to make the decision to have self control, I need to make a conscious effort every day to live for God and not straddle the fence.
I think that we have become so accustomed to saying that "God knows our heart, until we just use that for every wrong doing that we have committed. We need to get in line and "live for God's word and die for God's word!
I was probably all over the place on this e-mail, but when God is feeding you stuff, you gotta just go with the flow.
God bless you all
